My favorite movie is Almoreyda's version of Hamlet because it provided a fresh feel for the story. The character was young and was doing a documentary like our movies now-a-days. It was nice to see the changes in the two versions of the story. The differences in the plays didn't take from enjoying the movie though so it succeeded in my view. I Enjoyed the newer version of Hamlet very much. :D

Hamlet Modernized (Almoreyda's Version)
I like Mike Almoreyda's version of "Hamlet" because it is set at a more modern time. The actor choice for Hamlet's part was very good. He was young and was pretty much around the same age as I thought Hamlet would be. The story is set in the 21st century unlike the original play. The setting is in the city unlike the the castles of the original play. The music of the story is very joyous and happy instead of the ominous feel you would get from the original play. The clothing is very modern and less elaborate then the original play.

Even though the actor who played Hamlet did portray his depression and despise of the world the modern theme did not portray the opening scenes well. The music was loud and peppy while the scene was supposed to be dark, ominous, and suspenseful. Almoreyda also pressed the thought of an affair between Claudius and Gertrude rather forcefully when they both kiss at the press conference. Hamlet though was portrayed well as you have mentioned. I believe overall the movie could have been improved by the setting and music.
ReplyDeleteI disagree on the modern version being the better version mostly because of the fact when Hamlet comes to mind, NewYork setting isnt much of a similar thought. I do agree however on the young hamlet because he appears to be portrayed in tthat way and not as old in the first version by Franco Zeffirelli.
